Thinking of going with the wrapped headers. Found a kit for motorcycle exhaust:

Link
Not to bad at $66usd. They even have "white", tan, and aluminum colors. Was wondering, for those of you that did it, if there's a preference over brand, etc. This kit includes 2x 15ft rolls, plus a silicone spray (to keep it "clean"??) and SS zip ties/straps.

How much did you guys use for the Bird's pipes? Can get individual rolls of 15ft, 50ft or 100ft.

Hi ! in answer to your question .I have wrapped my hd twice looks ok some like it some do not I purchased a 50ft roll of 2inch on ebay with ties for around $36 I use the color black but they seem to turn a lighter color as the heat penetrates so I spray them with high heat paint from auto zone they always look good,,, now if you are going to wrap the bird you may not have to paint them were they have heat shields my other bike does not have shields try to buy the 2inch by 1/8 inch thick when applying start at the bottom and work towards the top looks great when you overlap 1/2 inch and keep the lap even ... I would be Leary whether 15 ft is enough for one side ???????? check this ebay #201074436151 check his store he must have black also this is blue color.....

Yea, I wrapped mine with a good amount of overlap. Overlap it less and it should be fine

Thanks, Beast! Was wondering the same thing.

Now to see if I can get to it (and my replacement, Billet header clamps from FastEddy) before Bennington!

resurrection of an old post but ...did you remove the headers before wrapping ? if so did you have to replace the exhaust gaskets ? I got my kit sitting but replacement gaskets are taking forever to be sent :(

I just wrapped mine last night and a 15 ft roll wouldn't cut it. A 50 ft roll cut in half worked with a little left over. I suppose it depends on how you do it. But I'm not sure I could get 15 to work regardless.

Here's a pic of the finished product.

I did it on the bike. Took about 90 min.

looks nice - kudos for doing it on the bike - took mine off

yep 15ft would not cut it - I bought the kit from BC - cut the roll in half - it just made it - just !

Looks like you have your cat removed - are you running a Power Commander and airbox upgrade ?

what Tune are you using ?

enuff questions already !

I figured on the bike would take as much time as off the bike - just spending the time on something else. and I didn't want to deal with the header bolts and gaskets, etc. Thanks! yours looks good also.

I do have the cat removed. No power commander. I still have the airbox, but I took out the mouth, and put in a K&N performance filter. so....slight airbox upgrade, but not the whole deal.

right now I'm running 20363 (I believe) - whatever the TOR tune is for the storm. I haven't modified the tune at all. seems to be running fine - pops a little, but not a lot (enough that I enjoy it, but not enough to be annoying).

I've thought about some of the other tunes on here - maybe after the warranty is up I'll experiment a little more. I don't want to provide any outs....just in case.

I know the thread is getting on a bit but still valid for me :)

So you removed the cat and didn't install a PCV - did you change the tune to 20363 or was that the version you already had ?

I'm waiting for my PCV from 'fast' eddy but was wondering what might happen if I removed the cat and ran for a while without a new tune ?

my exhausts are predators from BC btw

sorry - just saw this, so, it's probably OBE....but I was already running 20363 at the time I removed the cat (I was running short TORs at the time). I'm definitely no expert on the tuning side of things - more of a monkey - "load this tune" - "oooh ooh ah ah - okay" so, I'm prob not qualified to answer. I can tell you that I've been pretty paranoid about running the "appropriate" tune (from triumph's perspective) while I mess around with it because I don't want to give them any excuse to say I voided the warranty in the event there's some issue down the road.

Triumph finally solves the blued header problem and y'all go and wrap your pipes (sigh)...
Be advised that those billet clamps - which look good on there BTW - tend to change color. Mine did anyway. The black burns off in short order revealing gold or bronze anodizing underneath. Had to mask all those fins and squirt 'em with high temp black.

I have to do the same with mine billet "fins", too. Only one fit without a dremel. Because of the hand-weld from the factory, my left side had too "narrow" of a space between the inner/outer pipe weld and the weld to the engine flange.

I still haven't gone down the wrap path...but still considering.

In my case it was when I got the black pipes. It just didn't look right up against the chrome headers (and I didn't want to spring for new black headers or powder coating - so, it was a good solution for what I'm doing with the storm, which is more black than chrome anyway).

I read the following ( Link - "Exhaust wrapping is not without its risks. First, the higher exhaust exit temperatures can lean out the fuel mixture of an engine – sometimes severely. An overly lean situation can lead to rapid engine failure. Thus, wrapped pipes may necessitate either re-jetting or a change in mapping depending on your bike's fuel management system. There is also a real risk of header and pipe damage due to excessive heat build-up. There are numerous reports of split and cracked exhausts that can be attributed to the use of exhaust wrap."

Does anyone have advice on whether the T Bird is a risk for wrapping?

IMO it puts your bike at extreme risk.

ya i read a ton on it and the benefits were not great enough even for the looks, i know it has some to do with scavenging the exhaust , hotter exhaust will flow faster and pull faster from the cylinder but that will also lead as mentioned to a possible lean condition , plus you risk bluing the second wall for sure of the headers and if on long enough who knows. to each their own i guess.

I hear you. ...now spammers infiltrate threads. But if they'd at least post new TBird updates, all's good.
Anyway I can imagine 30 new thread reply's in one day only to be spam. And though I'm an optimist, that would probably be the end.
We all agree Budouin has done a Great job creating and managing this website but it may need more to maintain its uniqueness.

And clicking a spammer link could fuck up your day.
